Rustic (2022)
Rustic explores the quiet presence of old, weathered cars resting in a forgotten garage lot, where chipped paint, spreading rust, cracked glass, and worn interiors reveal years of use and eventual abandonment. I am drawn to these vehicles not simply as machines, but as aging bodies marked by time, suspended somewhere between memory and decay. Light plays a central role in this series; as it filters through dusty windows or falls across corroded metal, it softens the damage and transforms it into something intimate, almost tender. The contrast between shadow and illumination enhances the textures the roughness of oxidized steel, the peeling layers of paint, the sun-faded seats making the surfaces feel tactile and alive. Photographing these cars feels fundamentally different from photographing modern vehicles, which often appear polished and anonymous; these older cars carry individuality, their imperfections creating character and presence. Through Rustic, I aim to reveal the quiet beauty in deterioration and the emotional weight that time leaves behind.
